我们社区门口有一个很特别的冰箱。

There is a very special fridge at the gate of our community.
它是去年夏天来到这里的。
Tā shì qùnián xiàtiān lái dào zhèlǐ de.
It came here last summer.
它是大家共用的。
Tā shì dàjiā gòng yòng de.
It is shared by everyone.
它是社区志愿者放的。
Tā shì shèqū zhìyuànzhě fàng de.
It was set up by community volunteers.
谁都可以把食物放进去。
Shéi/shuí dōu kěyǐ bǎ shíwù fàng jìnqù.
Anyone can put food in.
谁需要，谁就可以拿。
Shéi/shuí xūyào, shéi/shuí jiù kěyǐ ná.
Anyone who needs it can take some.
冰箱上写着，放进多余的，拿走需要的。
Bīngxiāng shàng xiě zhe, fàng jìn duōyú de, ná zǒu xūyào de.
On the fridge it says, put in what you have extra, take what you need.
一开始，我不相信它能用很长时间。
Yī kāishǐ, wǒ bù xiāngxìn tā néng yòng hěn cháng shíjiān.
At first, I did not believe it would last long.
我想，也许有人会拿走很多。
Wǒ xiǎng, yěxǔ yǒu rén huì ná zǒu hěn duō.
I thought maybe someone would take too much.
也许没有人放进去。
Yěxǔ méiyǒu rén fàng jìnqù.
Maybe no one would put anything in.
头一个星期，我天天去看它。
Tóu yī gè xīngqī, wǒ tiān tiān qù kàn tā.
For the first week, I went to look at it every day.
冰箱里总是有很多东西。
Bīngxiāng lǐ zǒngshì yǒu hěn duō dōngxi.
There were always many things in the fridge.
有人放进了水果，有人放面包。
Yǒu rén fàng jìn le shuǐguǒ, yǒu rén fàng miànbāo.
Some put in fruit, some put in bread.
还有人放牛奶和鸡蛋。
Hái yǒu rén fàng niúnǎi hé jīdàn.
Others put in milk and eggs.
拿的人不多，每次都拿一点儿。
Ná de rén bù duō, měi cì dōu ná yìdiǎnr.
Few people took food, and each took only a little.
社区的老人都说，这个冰箱真好。
Shèqū de lǎorén dōu shuō, zhège bīngxiāng zhēn hǎo.
The old people in the community all said, this fridge is wonderful.
有的老人买菜买多了，就放一些进去。
Yǒude lǎorén mǎi cài mǎi duō le, jiù fàng yìxiē jìnqù.
Some old people put food in when they bought too much.
有的年轻人下班晚了，就拿一些出来吃。
Yǒude niánqīng rén xiàbān wǎn le, jiù ná yìxiē chūlái chī.
Some young people took some out to eat when they got off work late.
大家虽然不认识，可是都很信任对方。
Dàjiā suīrán bù rènshi, kěshì dōu hěn xìnrèn duìfāng.
Though no one knew each other, everyone trusted one another.
有一天，我发现冰箱里有过了日期的食物。
Yǒu yī tiān, wǒ fāxiàn bīngxiāng lǐ yǒu guò le rìqī de shíwù.
One day, I found food past its date in the fridge.
我把它拿了出来。
Wǒ bǎ tā ná le chūlái.
I took it out.
我想，这样下去不行。
Wǒ xiǎng, zhèyàng xiàqù bùxíng.
I thought, this cannot go on.
我在旁边写了一张纸。
Wǒ zài pángbiān xiě le yī zhāng zhǐ.
I wrote a note and put it beside the fridge.
纸上写着，请检查日期，过了日期的不要放。
Zhǐ shàng xiě zhe, qǐng jiǎnchá rìqī, guò le rìqī de búyào fàng.
The note said, check the date; do not put in food past its date.
第二天，我发现有人把冰箱擦干净了。
Dì èr tiān, wǒ fāxiàn yǒu rén bǎ bīngxiāng cā gānjìng le.
The next day, I found someone had wiped the fridge clean.
旁边还有一个人写的谢谢。
Pángbiān hái yǒu yī gèrén xiě de xièxie.
Beside it was a thank-you note from someone.
我看了，心里很感动。
Wǒ kàn le, xīnlǐ hěn gǎndòng.
Reading it, I was moved.
社区的人说，我们要一起管理这个冰箱。
Shèqū de rén shuō, wǒmen yào yìqǐ guǎnlǐ zhège bīngxiāng.
People in the community said, let us manage this fridge together.
大家商量了一个规矩。
Dàjiā shāngliang le yī gè guīju.
Everyone discussed and made a rule.
每个星期，有人检查两次。
Měi gè xīngqī, yǒu rén jiǎnchá liǎng cì.
Every week, someone checks it twice.
我也报名参加了。
Wǒ yě bàomíng cānjiā le.
I signed up to join too.
我想为大家多做一点儿。
Wǒ xiǎng wèi dàjiā duō zuò yìdiǎnr.
I want to do a little more for everyone.
现在，我是一名检查冰箱的志愿者。
Xiànzài, wǒ shì yī míng jiǎnchá bīngxiāng de zhìyuànzhě.
Now, I am a volunteer who checks the fridge.
每次打开冰箱，我都觉得心里温暖。
Měi cì dǎkāi bīngxiāng, wǒ dōu juéde xīnlǐ wēnnuǎn.
Every time I open the fridge, my heart feels warm.
冰箱里放的不只是食物。
Bīngxiāng lǐ fàng de bù zhǐshì shíwù.
What's in the fridge is more than food.
还有大家对彼此的关心。
Hái yǒu dàjiā duì bǐcǐ de guānxīn.
It also holds everyone's care for one another.
我想，信任是这样长出来的。
Wǒ xiǎng, xìnrèn shì zhèyàng cháng chūlái de.
I think trust grows this way.
你给别人一点儿，别人也给你一点儿。
Nǐ gěi biérén yìdiǎnr, biérén yě gěi nǐ yìdiǎnr.
You give others a little, and they give you a little too.
这样的小事，让我更相信人了。
Zhèyàng de xiǎo shì, ràng wǒ gèng xiāngxìn rén le.
Small things like this make me believe in people more.
