My family and I stayed home, not daring to go out.
窗外的树一直在动。
Chuāng wài de shù yìzhí zài dòng.
The trees outside the window kept moving.
我心里有些害怕。
Wǒ xīnlǐ yǒuxiē hàipà.
I was a little afraid.
妈妈说，别怕。
Māma shuō, bié pà.
Mom said, don't be afraid.
我们早早地睡了。
Wǒmen zǎo zǎo de shuì le.
We went to bed early.
第二天早上，风停了，雨也停了。
Dì èr tiān zǎoshang, fēng tíng le, yǔ yě tíng le.
The next morning, the wind and rain stopped.
我走出去，看到街上全变了。
Wǒ zǒu chūqù, kàn dào jiē shàng quán biàn le.
I went out and saw the street had completely changed.
树倒了，垃圾到处都是。
Shù dào le, lājī dàochù dōu shì.
Trees had fallen, and rubbish was everywhere.
有的路被堵住了，车开不过去。
Yǒude lù bèi dǔ zhù le, chē kāi búguò qù.
Some roads were blocked, and cars could not pass.
我们的小区里也很乱。
Wǒmen de xiǎoqū lǐ yě hěn luàn.
Our neighborhood was messy too.
老人们出不来，只能待在家里。
Lǎorén men chū bù lái, zhǐ néng dāi zài jiā lǐ.
The old people could not come out and had to stay home.
社区的人说，我们需要志愿者。
Shèqū de rén shuō, wǒmen xūyào zhìyuànzhě.
People from the community said, we need volunteers.
我马上报名，做了志愿者。
Wǒ mǎshàng bàomíng, zuò le zhìyuànzhě.
I signed up right away and became a volunteer.
下午，社区里来了很多人。
Xiàwǔ, shèqū lǐ lái le hěn duō rén.
In the afternoon, many people came to the community.
有学生，有上班的人，还有老人。
Yǒu xuéshēng, yǒu shàngbān de rén, hái yǒu lǎorén.
There were students, workers, and old people.
大家都不认识，可是都很热情。

No one knew each other, but everyone was warm.
有的人还带来了工具。
Yǒude rén hái dài lái le gōngjù.
Some even brought tools.
大家一起动手，打扫街道。
Dàjiā yìqǐ dòngshǒu, dǎsǎo jiēdào.
Everyone pitched in and cleaned the streets.
我把垃圾扫到一起，装进袋子里。
Wǒ bǎ lājī sǎo dào yìqǐ, zhuāng jìn dàizi lǐ.
I swept the rubbish into piles and put it in bags.
有的人把倒了的树抬到路边。
Yǒude rén bǎ dào le de shù tái dào lùbiān.
Some carried the fallen trees to the roadside.
天很热，大家都出了汗。
Tiān hěn rè, dàjiā dōu chū le hàn.
It was hot, and everyone was sweating.
可是没有人停下来。
Kěshì méiyǒu rén tíng xiàlái.
But no one stopped.
一位奶奶给我们送来了水和水果。
Yī wèi nǎinai gěi wǒmen sòng lái le shuǐ hé shuǐguǒ.
A grandma brought us water and fruit.
她笑着说，谢谢你们，孩子们。
Tā xiào zhe shuō, xièxie nǐmen, háizi men.
She smiled and said, thank you, children.
我们笑着说，这是我们应该做的。
Wǒmen xiào zhe shuō, zhè shì wǒmen yīnggāi zuò de.
We smiled and said, it's what we should do.
休息的时候，我们坐在一起说话。
Xiūxi de shíhou, wǒmen zuò zài yìqǐ shuōhuà.
During breaks, we sat together and talked.
有人说，明天他还来。
Yǒu rén shuō, míngtiān tā hái lái.
Someone said he would come again tomorrow.
傍晚的时候，街道全干净了。
Bàngwǎn de shíhou, jiēdào quán gānjìng le.
By evening, the streets were all clean.
路通了，车也能走了。
Lù tōng le, chē yě néng zǒu le.
The roads were clear, and cars could move again.
太阳也出来了。
Tàiyáng yě chūlái le.
The sun came out too.
看着干净的街道，大家都开心地笑了。
Kàn zhe gānjìng de jiēdào, dàjiā dōu kāixīn de xiào le.
Looking at the clean streets, everyone smiled happily.
我累得坐在地上不想动。
Wǒ lèi de zuò zài de shàng bù xiǎng dòng.
I was so tired I sat on the ground, not wanting to move.
可是我心里特别高兴。
Kěshì wǒ xīnlǐ tèbié gāoxìng.
But my heart was especially happy.
一个人做不完的事，大家一起就能做完。
Yī gèrén zuò bù wán de shì, dàjiā yìqǐ jiù néng zuò wán.
What one person cannot finish, many can finish together.
我想，这就是大家一起的力量。
Wǒ xiǎng, zhè jiùshì dàjiā yìqǐ de lìliàng.
I think this is the power of people together.
台风让城市受了伤。
Táifēng ràng chéngshì shòu le shāng.
The typhoon hurt the city.
可是大家一起，城市就好了。
Kěshì dàjiā yìqǐ, chéngshì jiù hǎo le.
But together, people made the city well again.
现在，我还常常想起那个下午。
Xiànzài, wǒ hái chángcháng xiǎng qǐ nàge xiàwǔ.
Now, I still often think of that afternoon.
那是我做过最累的事，也是最开心的事。
Nà shì wǒ zuò guò zuì lèi de shì, yě shì zuì kāixīn de shì.
It was the most tiring thing I have done, and also the happiest.
我想，以后有需要，我还会去。
Wǒ xiǎng, yǐhòu yǒu xūyào, wǒ hái huì qù.
I think if needed again, I will still go.
