凡尔赛
Fán'ěrsài
Literally says
Versailles
Actually means
humblebragging, complaining in order to show off
When to say it
Named after the palace by way of a Japanese manga. The classic move: ugh, my boyfriend bought me another bag, so annoying. That is fán'ěrsài. Call it out playfully when someone flexes while pretending to suffer. Teasing, not vicious.
Hear it in the wild
你这话也太凡尔赛了。
Nǐ zhè huà yě tài Fán'ěrsài le.
That is such a humblebrag.
她又凡尔赛,嫌别墅打扫太累。
Tā yòu Fán'ěrsài, xián biéshù dǎsǎo tài lèi.
She's flexing again, whining that her villa is tiring to clean.
