I only sometimes heard his voice in the stairwell.

Yī tiān wǎnshang, wǒ zhèngzài fángjiān lǐ kàn shū.
One night, I was reading in my room.
突然，我发现房间的墙上湿了。
Tūrán, wǒ fāxiàn fángjiān de qiáng shàng shī le.
Suddenly, I noticed the wall of my room was wet.
水从上面一点一点地流了下来。
Shuǐ cóng shàngmiàn yī diǎn yī diǎn de liú le xiàlái.
Water was running down little by little from above.
我的书和桌子全都湿了。
Wǒ de shū hé zhuōzi quándōu shī le.
My books and desk were all wet.
我很生气。
Wǒ hěn shēngqì.
I was angry.
那些书我很喜欢。
Nàxiē shū wǒ hěn xǐhuan.
I really liked those books.
我想，楼上的人太不小心了。
Wǒ xiǎng, lóu shàng de rén tài bù xiǎoxīn le.
I thought, the person upstairs is too careless.
我马上跑上楼，敲了他的门。
Wǒ mǎshàng pǎo shàng lóu, qiāo le tā de mén.
I ran upstairs right away and knocked on his door.
老人开了门，脸很红。
Lǎorén kāi le mén, liǎn hěn hóng.
The old man opened the door, his face red.
他说，对不起，对不起。
Tā shuō, duìbuqǐ, duìbuqǐ.
He said, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.
原来，他洗澡以后忘记关水，水一直流。
Yuánlái, tā xǐzǎo yǐhòu wàngjì guān shuǐ, shuǐ yìzhí liú.

I turned off the water for him and wiped the floor.
老人一直说谢谢。
Lǎorén yìzhí shuō xièxie.
The old man kept saying thank you.
我说，这只是小事。

I said, it is just a small thing.
第二天早上，他来敲我的门。

The next morning, he knocked on my door.

He brought some fruit and milk.

When he left, he still kept saying thank you.
我们站在门口说了很久。

We stood at the doorway talking for a long time.
从那以后，我们常常在楼里见面。
Cóng nà yǐhòu, wǒmen chángcháng zài lóu lǐ jiànmiàn.
Since then, we often meet in the building.
我们常常在楼梯里说话。
Wǒmen chángcháng zài lóutī lǐ shuōhuà.
We often talk in the stairwell.

He helps me bring in the laundry, and I help him buy things.
有的时候，他还给我送来热汤。

Sometimes he brings me hot soup.
我说，您太客气了。
Wǒ shuō, nín tài kèqi le.
I say, you're too polite.
他说，邻居就是一家人。
Tā shuō, línjū jiùshì yī jiārén.
He says, neighbors are family.
我听了，心里很温暖。
Wǒ tīng le, xīnlǐ hěn wēnnuǎn.
Hearing this, my heart felt warm.
我想，漏水本来是一件坏事。

I think the leak was a bad thing at first.
可是它让我有了一个朋友。
Kěshì tā ràng wǒ yǒu le yī gè péngyou.
But it gave me a friend.
我很高兴认识他。
Wǒ hěn gāoxìng rènshi tā.
I am glad to know him.
有的时候，坏事也能变成好事。
Yǒude shíhou, huài shì yě néng biànchéng hǎo shì.
Sometimes a bad thing can turn into a good thing.
